We, the Free Democrats, do not do the race thing! We believe that all of us are pink on the inside (hence our pink logo) and deep down we all desire quality healthcare
The Free Democrats has been founded to advocate for private health care for all South Africans.
We believe that all South Africans are entitled to the best medical treatment available. World class private health care is currently available to approximately 16-20% of South Africans. The Free Democrats say that all South Africans should have access to private healthcare.
National Health Insurance (NHI), proposed by Government, will attempt to eventually send us all back to state hospitals, away from quality care in the private sector.
We feel that going back to public hospitals is the wrong approach. Quality healthcare is most likely to be found in private hospitals, at GP offices and with private specialists.
Implementing state health care (NHI) will require a massive increase in the budget of the Department of Health.
The report of the auditor general of November 2018 indicated the bad audit situation at the Department of Health had deteriorated.
The report confirmed what all South Africans already knew:
When huge amounts of taxpayer funds end up in government departments, it gets captured, looted, raided, stolen, wasted and the balance goes Dubai.
The net result of NHI will be increased state hospital and state clinic health care and:
inferior in hospital and out patient care for many,
long waiting lists for essential surgery,
restricted and often outdated medication options,
denial of access to the best medicines available,
loss of easy and early access to medical specialists and
loss of choice.
Every South African deserves the best medical treatment available.
The Free Democrats fight for private heath care for each and every individual South African. Every citizen should have a medical aid, administered by the medical aid industry and funded by a payroll deduction, of between 3-5% (3-5% deducted from the salaries of employees and an equal 3-5% contribution from the employer),similar to the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
It can be done if the South African economy is healthy and under competent stewardship.
South Africa can afford private healthcare only in the presence of a strong, vibrant and growing economy. Private healthcare will have to be funded by payroll deduction. It stands to reason that we have more chance of success if we create more payrolls. Job creation is vital.
We will not be able to afford private healthcare for all if we continue to damage the economy. Everytime a logorrheic windbag politician talks about land exprotiation without compensation the economy suffers. Such irresponsible rhetoric causes flight of capital and job losses. It is time that we all come together to build a strong economy which will fund quality healthcare for all.
Make a loud and emphatic statement: We do not trust the state with our Health Care.
